Mid Season Report

At the halfway point of our Fantasy season, many teams find themselves in
uncharted waters, while others might be feeling that they have been here
before. Perennial cellar dweller Alex's Killer Whales are looking down at
every other team in the FCCAA. Propelling the Whales to their 6-1 record
is Alex's 1st round pick JT Tipton. Although starting the season slowly,
the Sonoma State flopper has recored double doubles in four of his last
five games. Right behind the big guy is hot shooting Jon Baird, Chico
State (in the running for the Trade-of-the-

Year postseason award).

Also up for TOTY, Augie-ben-dogi-Johnston from Monterey Bay has helped
Jack's D2 Dynanos stay afloat (4-3) despite a scoring discrepancy in his
week 7 game versus the Heroes. After learning of the scoring debacle,
Coach Sara was heard saying, “That Jack will do ANYthing to win, cheat,
lie, he was even taunting me after Saturday night's game.”

Dethroned Bulldog coach Chris' replacement, recently dethroned Raider head
coach Art Shell, has done little to stem the tide. Last weeks' beating at
the hands of the Marauders was their 7th defeat in a row, leaving fans
wondering if another front office shake up is in the works.

Self-proclaimed Master of All Fantasy sports coach Gary has failed his
fans for a second straight year (2-5). “It's like he had his player list
upside down when he was drafting people,” Coach Matt declared. Yet we
should be sympathetic due to his being 8th in draft order. Drafting Luis
Pulido (Pomona) 2nd was his downfall and he hasn't recovered since. He
does have two victories even though one was a cheapie (beating Sara week 2
with his three players against her two).

Always-the-bridesmaid-never-the-bride team T-Bif is trailing the Whales by
a game so far due to some poor trading (Matt Evans????) and inconsistent
performances (Jamil Muchell SF, Daryl Lawlor SD). Coach Justin remarked,
“I was stupid to trade the Rat (Rick Cardoso) for Evans.”

Equally stupid was the pickup of the Rat by Bodie's Boners as Cardoso has
been a non-entity the last few weeks, letting the annual powerhouse Boners
slip to 4-3, holding down sixth place all alone.

Joining the D2 Dynamos at a 4-3 record are the Marauders and the Heroes,
giving the promise of many exciting games down the stretch.

Marauders Hope To End Slide With New Addition & Weak Opponent

Eureka Jan 10, 2007-

This past week's long awaited match-up between F-Season 1 winner (Jack) and F-Season 2 champ (Matt) did not live up to it's suspense-filled billing. The Marauders trailed the D2 Dynamos by about 50 at halftime, setting up a scenario where, for Matt's team to win, his players would have to double their efforts Saturday night, or Jack's team would all have to tank it. Needless to say, neither event happened, with the Dynamos taking the victory 102-83.

The Marauders would like to place blame on Grayson Moyer and his buzzer beating shot, but not even in Coach Matt's Enron inspired world could 2 points equal 19 points. And instead of taking responsibility himself, Coach Matt put it all on the shoulders of under-producing Cal State Bakersfield guard Randall Harding. “Randy's been blowin' it all season,” Matt was heard saying after Harding turned in an uninspiring 9Fpts this week, “To say that our failures this year are 100% Harding's fault would be unfair...let's say it's 97.5% his fault.”

Coach Matt finally had to let Harding go in favor of Dominguez Hills Mike Steed. “So far this year Steed has been flying under the radar[of the other fantasy teams], next week he will be flying into the face of the Bulldogs,” Matt was heard prophesying. Steed's 12 pts, 4 rebounds and 1 assist per game should help propel the Marauders out of their two game losing streak. When asked about their poor play of late, Coach Matt laughed and made some ill-tempered remark about this week's opponents 6 game (season long) losing streak. “The Bulldogs have five of their eight players from two teams,” Matt poignantly observed, “and three of them are from Stanislaus...STANISLAUS, what was that guy thinking at draft time...oh yeah, Amsterdam.”

In League news, with 2 games separating six teams, this season's final stretch should include more teams than past years. The (one can only call it) SHOCKING turnaround of the Killer Whales this year would be an inspiring story for most if it were not tainted by the appalling lack of grace Coach Alex exhibits on a nightly basis. Editorial Opinion: “I don't think the clean life will stick to Alex. His emotional and physical addiction is too strong for his nature.”

FCCAA Teams Mimic MLB Winter Meetings; HSF Coach Immortalized

Eureka Dec 7-

A rash of fantasy redrafting took place this week, reshaping the look of many teams.  The Killer Whales dropped two (Tobias Jahn and Tyler Burns), picking up Jon Baird from Chico and Jeremy Smith from Sonoma. T-Bif caught trading bug, getting rid of Rick Cardosa(the rat) and Jamel Ward, garnering David Van Somerson and Matt Evans.  But in the blockbuster of the week, Holcomb's Heroes dropped their 3rd round choice, Chico bid man Frank Isbekoyi, in favor of Bernadino newcomer and FCCAA Player of the Week Prentiss Harris (formerly player of no standing from Northwest Nazarene).  Other trade news inlcuded the Bulldogs dropping Del Rio for Olajuwon Jones (OJ) from Chico.

In a surprise move, the local Times-(Sub)Standard dedicated it's entire Sunday front page to our very own Gary (Super-Fan) Batini.  The Times sport
s editor, Brad Botkin, wrote 1800+ words defining the devotion of our dedicated dude.

Humboldt Stymied; Marauders Stumble

Eureka Dec 4-

HSU men took to the road this week to begin their CCAA season, yet came away with two losses.  Poor shooting and turnovers by the Jacks created opportunities for San Bernadino and Pomona.  Humboldt was just 8 for 30 from beyond the arc in both games, but also missed many easy layins.  The Jacks dominated the interior leading the Broncos by nine rebounds and the Coyotes by 13  but  could not turn those into points often.  Humboldt was able to capitalize on their chances from the free throw line going 33 of 43.

In a strange twist of fate, Humboldt's woes did not translate into a benefit for the Marauders as they saw their 96 points at halftime dwindle to 84.  Dion Cook of Pomona (first round pick for the Marauders) only managed four points on the night versus Humboldt on 1 for 11 shooting.  Conversely, UCSD's Shane Poppen (the Marauders 8th round choice) picked up the slack, coming in as coach Morgan's leading scorer this week.

The Killer Whales final score was not known at press time.

HSU Gets Just Desserts; Killer Whales Look to the Future

Eureka Nov. 30-

Perennially underrated HSU made it's way into the NABC National Poll this week.   After getting snubbed again in the preseason poll, the east coast/Midwest-biased pollsters were unable to prevent Humboldt's ascension to #13 this week.  No other CCAA teams made it onto the poll after a sub par week for the conference.  The past week saw Bakersfield, Stanislaus, Dominguez Hills, and UCSD all taking losses, although UCSD managed to make a statement in beating two previously top four teams (Seattle Pacific [drop to #9] Montevallo [drop to #14]).  UCSD only managed to garner one measly vote to fall under the category of "Others receiving votes".

In fantasy news, this week pits lasts years worst team against the team that won it all.  The newly renamed Killer Whales, managed by Alex, were only able to win one game all last season, due to a draft malfunction.  While this season Alex came to the draft with a plan.  The coach said it best, "I'm sick of sucking."  He gathered a much improved team over last season, led by soon to be All-American JT Tipton from Sonoma  and hot shot Stanislaus guard Marcus Martinez.

The Marauders should prove to be no slouch with the do-it-all man Dion Cook from Pomona and emerging superstar Willy Sheufelt (HSU). This should be a great match up.

Morgan's Marauders Set to Maul New Conference

Arcata Nov. 28-  The new conference caused no major problems for the reigning Fantasy GNAC champion Marauders, headed by diamond-in-the-rough coach Matthew Morgan.  Due to his extensive knowledge (ei. wasting numerous hours on the internet) of the CCAA, the transition from the well known GNAC to the somewhat obscure CCAA was smooth as a baby's butt.  Speaking of things from a newborn bum, Gary's HSF Express seems doomed to another year in the cellar due to the coaches odd, and some might say affected, draft choices.  His first round draft of Ivan Johnson from San Bernadino was both misplaced and illadvised.  Playing only 15 minutes and netting 5 total points in his first fantasy game will only pull down a team rom its' shoe-top hieghts.

In other news, T-Bif's 6th round acquisition of Pomona's Kealen Daniels might prove to be one of the best drafts of this season.  He gathered 14 points and 6 boards in Monday nights game versus Bernadino.
